Annie Fairhurst is an obese social misfit who is addicted to self help books. The narrator Annie is unreliable and gifted with an amazing ability to distort reality to suit her wishes. She is calculating, delusional and most certainly insane. However, the read is delicious and I could not put it down. Fortunately, it was my day off. Please someone read it and let me know if you enjoyed it as much as I did. Amazingly another debut I cannot wait for Ashworth’s next book.

Disturbing and whacked, but couldn't put it down! It was strange but oddly compelling reading from the narritive view of a clearly mentally insane person. My only complaint is that I think the author took the obesity aspect a little too far.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to hear from someone that read this book-------I wondered why Will loved her. But it was unputdownable.
ReplyDeleteThanks for another great pick! I downloaded this to my Kindle last night... and will tell you I'm yawning at work at this very moment because I could not put the stupid thing down. I'm not done yet, real life intruded, but so far I agree with all comments.
ReplyDeleteGreat recommendation. Can you think of any other books similiar to this that you may suggest as well?
ReplyDeleteJenn Ashworth has another book due out on May 12, 2011 titled Cold Light.
ReplyDeleteSuch a good read - disturbing, fascinating, really well done. I was many pages into it before I realized it was British! (Yet another reason to like it!) Very well done, and it is one of those books that haunts us long after we finished it. An excellent recommendation.
ReplyDeleteGreat recommendation, Maggie. Haunting, absorbing, and certainly intriguing. It makes me look at other people in a slightly different light - wondering if they, too, are a bit bizaare in their own way! Really a good book.
ReplyDeleteGreat recommendation. It was well written, thoroughly engrossing, and haunting long after the last page was read. I couldn't predict the ending. Makes me wonder about other people I know and if they carry such devious patterns!
ReplyDeleteLoved this book. Zipped through it so quickly! Couldn't help but feel a twinge of sympathy for the character, while all the time despising her! Really enjoy complex and unusual characters that fail to get you on their side but keep you hooked.
